Dangerous jellyfish in the Black sea?
A question often asked by mothers and nervous subjects, guests of the black sea resorts and resorts.
It’s no secret that many of us feel a sense of disgust swimming in the sea, to the ubiquitous jellyfish. Meeting with them also consider, if not dangerous, in any case an undesirable event. Reason — in the ability of jellyfish to cause the effect similar to the one that gives a touch of nettles. On the tentacles, oral lobes and other parts of the body large jellyfish (the Black sea two species of Aurelia, or of the long-eared jellyfish, and kornerot) there are millions of so-called stinging or nettle cells. The cells of a special kind: in case of irritation (touching a foreign body), they “shoot” miniature thread with the spikes at the base and inject into the wound a potent poison hypotaxis, able to paralyze or kill prey. Of course, due to the microscopic size of these stinging cells of the jellyfish are dangerous only to small aquatic organisms. On human skin they can cause a slight irritation — “burns”. Most sensitive to stinging cells and Aurelia comerota especially of the mucous membrane of our eye, where the poison can get not only resulting from the negligence of the victim, but also as a result of swimming in the sea after a storm, when the water plavetnilo scraps of jellyfish.
However, the trouble delivered to black sea jellyfish more than compensated for by the coast “sanitary” function cleaners water column, and it should contain original dislike bathing by jellyfish. They are mostly throw away to the beach where they die. On the beach you can see the entire shaft of jellyfish washed up by the storm, but so much of this is already old, outdated creatures, and the young and vigorous individuals are able to grasp in advance of the approaching storm and take refuge from him in the deeper layers of water.
Aurelia and kornerot deserve our indulgence because of its relative “softness”. There are other sea jellyfish, contact with which promises really serious trouble. For example, meeting with a small jellyfish-krestovskom known to the inhabitants of the coast of the sea of Japan and Kuril Islands, remains in the memory of the victim. It is in the best case. At the moment of contact with jellyfish bather feels a strong “burn” and after a few minutes the skin at the site of contact of the tentacles of the jellyfish is red and covered with blisters. Need to go out of water for 10-30 minutes, there is weakness, difficulty breathing, numb hands and feet, and if the shore is far away, people can drown. The same effects and even more severe, have meetings with some tropical jellyfish. So, dear tourists and vacationers, without fear, enjoy a rest on the black sea coast.
